”David Cooper joined the University of Alberta in 1989, and became the first holder of the Certified General Accountants of Alberta Chair in Accounting (1995 – 2011). David obtained a BSc (Econ, honours) from the London School of Economics and his PhD from the University of Manchester in 1980. Previously he held academic positions at Manchester, UMIST, East Anglia UBC and University of Oxford, and is currently an Honorary Professor at Cardiff Professor and Consulting Professor at Strathclyde University. David was awarded the Haim Falk Award for distinguished contribution to accounting thought in 2005, the Killam Annual Professorship in 2008, the Kaplan Prize in 2010, and has received 2 Honorary Doctorates.
David has written or edited eight books and over seventy five articles and book chapters. His research has examined the development and implementation of business planning and performance measurement systems in government organizations and multinational organizations, and their impact on managerial practices. He has also conducted research on the management of large professional service firms (notably law and accounting), with special emphasis on processes of change, ethics and globalization.
He is an editor of Accounting, Organizations and Society and is a member of the Editorial Boards of seven other international research journals. He has taught senior managers in a variety of programs in Canada, the US and Europe, and has consulted with public and private sector organizations on strategy, performance management and costing.”
